However, Wall Street investors are putting immense pressure on CEO Mark Zuckerberg to show clear financial returns on the company’s staggering $125 billion to $145 billion infrastructure budget. In response, the social media giant is shifting gears, officially entering the commercial developer market with a capable, paid AI model called Meta Muse Spark 1.1.

Muse Spark 1.1 is a product of the company’s Superintelligence Labs under the leadership of AI chief Alexandr Wang. It promises a massive step forward from the limited preview released back in April. In an interview with CNBC, Wang characterized the model as its strongest asset yet for autonomous tasks and software engineering.

Supercharging digital interns

The tech industry’s excitement regarding automated digital workflows exploded earlier this year, largely driven by open-source control frameworks like OpenClaw. Meta specifically trained Muse Spark 1.1 to play nicely with these developer platforms, aiming to maximize adoption right out of the gate.

According to Meta, the upgraded system can autonomously write and debug software. It can also interact seamlessly with external coding environments, process multimodal video and image inputs, and solve complex multi-step problems without needing constant human oversight. Wang explains that refining these programming skills is essential because they form the foundational baseline for building smarter, more capable digital agents that can act like a fleet of virtual office interns.

Aggressive pricing and a cloud computing future

Meta has the tough job of convincing engineers to switch away from established alternatives like Anthropic and OpenAI. With this in mind, the firm is launching an aggressive pricing strategy. US-based developers joining the public preview will receive $20 in introductory credits. Once those expire, Meta will charge $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens. This structure places Muse Spark 1.1 well below premium options like Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet. For high-consumption workflows, this is a big plus.

Furthermore, a Bloomberg report recently revealed that Meta is quietly building a cloud computing business. This strategy would allow external clients to rent excess capacity directly from Meta’s massive data centers, putting them in direct competition with cloud giants like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

But what about Meta’s traditional open-source AI messaging? Well, Wang claims the company remains committed to the broader community. He noted that a separate open-source variant of the system is currently under development. He declined to provide a firm release date, though. The team is also actively training a next-generation model under the internal code name “Watermelon.”

The Android Headlines Take

Just when the AI ​​industry seemed inevitably headed toward higher costs and usage restrictions, a light at the end of the tunnel is emerging. A few hours ago, SpaceXAI launched Grok 4.5, boasting reliability and high computing capabilities at a low cost. OpenAI recently launched GPT-5.6 Sol with a similar approach. Now Meta joins this evident trend with Muse Spark 1.1.

While these models primarily target developers, lower operating costs translate into more affordable AI services for the end user. Will Google make a similar move? Recent rumors point to Gemini-related announcements on July 17, including the long-awaited Gemini 3.5 Pro model. If this is the new trend, Anthropic will find itself in problems due to its escalating price approach.
