Samsung is preparing to refresh its premium tablet lineup later this year. If you missed the middle child in the latest premium Galaxy Tab generation, everything indicates that it’s making a comeback. After skipping the “Plus” variant in the S11 series, regulatory listings show that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Plus is well on its way, and we even received our first real-world look thanks to a recent certification image.

The tablet recently passed through the Safety Korea regulatory database. Tech blog SammyGuru spotted the live picture of the device. While regulatory photos rarely win any photography awards, this one gives us a clear look at Samsung’s design strategy for its next premium tablet.

Familiar design choices

If you were hoping for a radical visual redesign, you might want to temper your expectations. The live image reveals that the Galaxy Tab S12 Plus features uniform, somewhat thick bezels surrounding the display.

More importantly, the photo confirms the placement of the front-facing camera. Recent rumors suggested Samsung might experiment with a modern punch-hole camera design for this generation. However, the image clearly shows the selfie lens nestled safely within the top bezel along the landscape edge. While the Plus model is sticking to the classic bezel housing, Samsung could still be saving the experimental punch-hole look for the top-tier Ultra model.

Moving closer to launch

The Safety Korea listing identified the tablet with the model numbers SM-X840 and SM-X846N, representing the Wi-Fi and Korean 5G variants. Meanwhile, the team at 91mobiles spotted the same device hitting the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) database under the model numbers SM-X840 and SM-X846B.

Neither database provides a full list of internal specifications. Still, these consecutive certification appearances tell us that the hardware is finalized and undergoing standard regulatory checks. Based on Samsung’s past release cycles, these database entries usually happen a few months before the product hits store shelves. This places the potential launch window somewhere between August and October.

Our take

Bringing back the Plus model is a smart move for Samsung. Last year’s lineup forced buyers to choose between the standard tablet and the massive Ultra version, leaving a gap for those who wanted a large screen without the ultimate premium price tag.

As for the design, sticking to thicker bezels on a large tablet actually makes practical sense. Unlike a smartphone, a heavy tablet requires a solid place to rest your thumbs without triggering accidental screen touches. Keeping the camera hidden in that bezel also keeps the display completely uninterrupted for watching movies, editing photos, or multitasking. Yes, a tablet with slim bezels looks quite premium, but sometimes it is a bit annoying to use.
