Anthropic Is Giving Away Free Claude Access and Credits to Startups

Getting developers to build on your AI models takes more than just good benchmarks, and Anthropic knows it. During its SF Tech Week event, the company announced it’s opening up its Claude Startups program to a much wider group of founders, bringing along free API credits, software discounts, and hands-on support.

First launched back in May with thousands of participating companies, the program is getting a solid bump in benefits. Approved teams receive a $1,000 credit for Anthropic’s Claude Console API and a full year of Claude Team for up to five users at no cost.

Software discounts, mentorship, and VC backing

To help early-stage teams stretch their budgets, Anthropic is also bundling what it calls the Claude Startup Stack. This gives members access to up to $45,000 in discounts on software tools covering engineering, design, data management, sales, and meetings.

Founders also get direct access to Anthropic’s applied AI engineers through 45-minute virtual office hours every two weeks, plus invitations to community events like hackathons and the Claude Founder House in San Francisco running October 6-8. If a startup is backed by a venture capital firm in Anthropic’s partner network, that team can unlock up to $100,000 in extra API credits.

Who can apply and important rules

The entry requirements are pretty broad. Bootstrapped, pre-seed, and venture-backed startups can apply as long as they were founded in the last five years or raised funding in the last two. Applicants just need an active Claude Console account and an email address tied to their company domain.

There are a few ground rules on how those credits work, though. The $1,000 API credit expires after six months and only works on Anthropic’s first-party Claude Console—you can’t apply it toward Amazon Web Services Bedrock or Google Cloud Vertex AI. On the upside, approved members also get higher API rate limits to keep their builds running smoothly.
