Leaked details reveal how much ARM wants to charge Qualcomm per chip

ARM reportedly wants to increase the rate at which Qualcomm pays per chip for the ARMv10 royalties, as details have emerged in open court in Qualcomm’s lawsuit against ARM. According to information from the report, details about what Qualcomm charges for its flagship Snapdragon chipsets and what it pays per chip to ARM have been sealed and not made available officially for public knowledge.

However, it’s now being said that while in court this week, during closing arguments, ARM’s lead counsel accidentally leaked the amount which Qualcomm charges for its flagship selling price. No actual statements have been made which detail what ARM is actually trying to charge Qualcomm per chip. However, what Qualcomm pays now per chip is known, and details also came out in court revolving around the increase amount ARM wants to charge. This has led to people being able to add things up and figure out what the dollar amount is that ARM is trying to charge Qualcomm.

ARM wants to charge Qualcomm a rate of $28.20 per chip until 2033, then increase it further

Based on details given by analyst John Dorbal on X, the per chip rate that Qualcomm currently pays to ARM is at a maximum of $1.88. ARM has openly stated during the case that it wants to increase the per chip rate by 15x, which puts the final amount at a maximum of $28.20. This would be the rate for an extended contract that goes from 2027 until 2033.

Dorbal also states that in 2033, ARM is demanding the ability to increase the per chip rate again for a contract that would last from 2034 to 2040, and that it wants the increase to be 34.5x the current per chip rate. That would push the rate up to a maximum of $64.86 per chip. Qualcomm also reportedly offered ARM a $250 Million check upfront to lock in the ARMv10 rate going forward, and ARM refused, now demanding these newly reported rates for future contracts.
