Withings decides data syncing should be a paid feature

Data syncing is a function that many if not most wearable and smart health devices offer so you can have one place for all your health-related metrics in one place, and this used to include Withings, a brand that makes both hybrid watches and devices like smart scales. It’s still possible to sync your health data to outside platforms like Google Health, but Withings now makes it harder to do so.

Reports have surfaced that state Withings is now charging for this feature, shoving the capability to sync any of that information gathered by its devices with another platform behind a paywall. Upon making this discovery, users of Withings devices are reportedly upset at having to now pay for something that was once given away for free.

Withings now charges you a fee if you want to access data syncing with other platforms

Withings has confirmed that third-party data syncing is no longer free of charge, but there is a little bit of nuance there to the whole situation. If you want to sync your data captured with a Withings devices to a third-party app, such as Google Health, it requires a subscription to Withings Plus.

However, this is only required for some accounts. Withings states that if you created a Withings account on or before October 12, 2026, then the third-party syncing will remain free, and it will carry through future Withings devices, because it’s “tied to your account and not your device.” If you created an account after this time, or you create one in the future, then you will need to subscribe to Withings Plus to access to third-party syncing.

While data syncing is no longer possible free of charge for new users, the report mentions that it is still possible to export the data as a CSV or PDF file without having to spend any money.
